The Pleasures of Spinning Sari Silk, Illustrated

Spinning news: I've been experimenting with spinning sari silk, the by-product of the sari making process. I ordered what looks like a snarled up bunch of threads, but...but...but, what threads! All colors, with silk's lovely sheen and with hidden blobs of color. Seee above.

I bagan carding this lovely mess and began to hyperventilate. The beauty of it all. When I began to spin it and found that those hidden blobs spun into what looked like little jewels along a necklace. You can see from the pics of the skein I spun how beautiful this stuff is.

I was hooked. I've included some of this gorgeousness in a little scarf kit I'm in the process of listing on Etsy, but I must, MUST knit the rest of this stuff myself. The scarf kit consists of 3 little skeins, one yellow merino, the second yellow merino plied with the silk and the third also yellow plied with silk, but this one is spun with beehives of silk and merino. Cute!

I'm not sure what I'll knit with the rest of the skein. This will take some thought.

Our assignment yesterday for "30 days to a better shop" was to revisit our profile and polish it up. I have to admit that I hadn't read it lately, not since I first bagan to set up my Etsy shop. I blush to admit that, on revisiting it, it's not so bad. I was reminded that I spent a lot of time working on it. Thus, no changes there.

Tune in tomorrow for tales of our visit to "Liquid Silver Mountain" It took my breath away!
